Ah Jenny, I remember when you asked me this last year, I thought "only 6 words?!" Still struggle with that!

You're right - how we label ourselves and our situations has a massive impact on how we experience things and being able to access our own confidence, skills and talents. One of my favourite reframes is to turn "I have no confidence" or "I'm lacking in confidence" into "I'm growing in confidence".

I guess my six words right now, if I can only choose six, would probably be "Living full on, experimenting, smiling,
encouraging"

Love this post, and very well said Jenny. As a business owner I know I need to demonstrate my talents as part of marketing my business, but I much prefer bigging up my clients than myself! Was reminded of this over the weekend in a talk on Humility by John Dickson at the Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit, saying "The real power of effective leadership is maximising other people's potential, which inevitable demands that the other person gets the credit" (quoting Jim Brigadier former SAS commander)

Fabulous post Jenny, I've just written about appreciating baby steps in my newsletter article on confidence! My own baby steps are exactly what helped me get from the early days of motherhood, being completely lost and wondering how to get through the day to what I would describe as "good enough most of the time with intermittent lapses into hopelessness and brilliance" - definitely better! Love what Tanya said about sowing seeds and what Deb said about microwave results too.

Great post Jenny! Too often we look for microwave results but sustained success is built on sustained activity over the course of time.
Love what you do!

Wise words Jenny, and of course very true. In fact to take the seeds analogy further (cos as you know I live on a farm!) - so much is in fact happening to that seed BEFORE you ever see the shoot break through the soil - and it ALL counts, so we have to take a leap of faith that the right effort will yield the results - just as in our businesses too!

Hi Jenny,

Great post..thanks. It reminds me of something someone once told me to always do something every day -if only a small thing- to move your business/life towards your ultimate destination.

Really enjoyed this post Jenny, and its so true that the small steps tend to be more do-able AND then the change is more sustainable.

Several years ago, someone advised me to watch a bit less of the news on TV (not completely cut it out though... too big a step) and read something uplifting for 10 mins a day... 10 mins.. thats hardly anything is it? AND YET is was pretty easy to make this switch and Ive been doing it (mostly) ever since...

The effect?.. after a week or two and still today, a definately improved outlook on life (far from perfect of course, but BETTER)

Thanks again for a great thought provoker..

Best Wishes, Frank

Couldn't agree more. I'm changing my entire life at the moment, including my career, and it's taking time, perserverance, lots of effort, financial investment, tears, you name it. But the small green shoots I'm seeing are telling me I'm doing the right thing and I just need to pace myself. Nice post Jenny.

Jenny,
I'm so glad I stumbled upon your site! You put it beautifully! I'm so happy to have found your site--I work with working moms on a variety of things, but mainly finding balance in their lives. Taking care of family AND self AND building a career when all mixed together is a lot for most of us to handle gracefully and with adequate balance among the 3. Thanks so much for your vision and for what you do to help others!!!

Thanks, Glenda! I AM aware it's hit a bit of a raw nerve with me and I need to ensure I'm not on a personal crusade. But I really believe we've got to help people help themselves and if we create the sense that without the guru they'd be back where they started....well, I don't like that. But as I posted to Paul below, got to move on and not let it rankle! Thanks for taking the time to consider and post back - I really appreciate it!
